Better Fuel Economy, Longer Tire Life and Enhanced Safety
The tires on your Lifetime Protection Plan covered vehicle were converted to
NitroFill nitrogen tire inflation
by your selling dealer, who will continue to maintain, or "top-off," your covered
vehicle's tires with NitroFill for as long as you own it.
Inflating and maintaining your tires with NitroFill can increase your fuel economy by as much as 10% and increase your tire life by as much as 50% … all while greatly enhancing your safety and reducing your carbon footprint.*
Perhaps the easiest way understand what makes nitrogen such a beneficial inflation medium and how using it can provide such remarkable benefits, is to consider what it "isn't," as opposed to what it "is." Nitrogen is an "inert" gas, which basically means it is "nothing"… a gas that is completely free of any properties or the ability to react. Essentially, nitrogen is the nothing that oxygen is combined with in our atmosphere so we humans can survive.
"Regular air," the air that we breathe and typically compress to fill tires, is about 79.1% nitrogen and roughly 20% oxygen. While oxygen, again, is essential for us and almost every other living organism, it is detrimental to almost everything else … think "oxidation." Oxidation, more commonly known as rust, rot and corrosion, is the absolute enemy of anything composed of rubber or steel … like the tires and wheels on your vehicle. Without the presence of oxygen, it is impossible for oxidation to occur….i.e., no internal wheel rust or corrosion, no tire pressure sensor oxidization and no tire rot. Further, without the presence of oxygen, the "O" in H2O, water or condensation, cannot form in your vehicle's tires and wheels. Hence, the elimination of oxygen means the elimination or prevention of tire and wheel rust, rot and corrosion, as well as water and water related issues.
The greatest disadvantage of oxygen, however, is its molecular size. Oxygen has a very small molecular structure, so small in fact that it is completely normal for air filled tires to lose 1-3 psi per month from "permeation," the process through which the oxygen molecules in compressed air seep through the carcass of a tire. Nitrogen, on the other hand, has a very large molecular structure. A molecule of nitrogen is about 4 times larger than a molecule of oxygen. Hence, tires filled with high purity nitrogen typically lose NO pressure over a one month period.
While controlling tire and wheel oxidation is clearly beneficial, most of the benefits of nitrogen inflation have little to do with nitrogen itself, but are rather the result of an inert, stable gas that is "oxygen free," and therefore simply doesn't leak out of your tires.
Underinflated tires run warmer and wear out much, much faster. Losing just a few psi can increase tire wear by as much as 50%. Further, under inflation increases a tire's "rolling resistance" and, therefore, decreases a vehicle's fuel economy. Rolling resistance is a measure of how much energy is required to propel a given vehicle. If you have ever ridden a bicycle or pushed a car with underinflated tires, you understand: it's a LOT harder to get and keep a vehicle rolling with underinflated tires. And the problem is serious, as Americans alone waste over 8.5 million gallons of gasoline each day to under-inflation.
Converting your tires to, and maintaining them with, NitroFill will help you enjoy optimum fuel economy, tire life and safety. Like your vehicle manufacturer, and the company that manufactured the tires that are on it, we recommend that you check your tire pressure every month. So, lookout for our monthly e-mail and text "Inflation Reminders" and return to your Lifetime Protection Plan dealer as often as you can for a fast and free NitroFill pressure calibration.
Note: A non-illuminated tire pressure warning light does not mean your tire pressure isn't low; it simply means your tire pressure isn't low enough to trigger the light.
